Since their debut in 2006, the Eblana String Trio have given countless performances throughout the UK and beyond, winning praise from audiences and critics for their powerful interpretations of this often neglected repertoire. They have performed at Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall and major festivals such as Salisbury, Lake District Summer Music, Stratford-Upon-Avon and Musikfest Goslar. The trio have also broadcast on Radio 3 on many occasions. Their debut album The King’s Alchemist was released with Willowhayne Records in 2021 to great acclaim. The album was selected as chamber CD of the Month in a 5-star review in BBC Music Magazine.
Their programme includes Schubert’s much loved Trio, and Into The Abyss, I Throw Roses, which was written for the Eblana Trio by Grace Evangeline Mason in 2018 and performed by them in the Purcell Room. Described as ‘beautiful and muscular’ by the Guardian, it was inspired by words from Friedrich Nietzsche’s Posthumous Fragments (1882-83) ‘You have overcome yourself: but why do you show yourself to me only as the one overcome? I want to see the victor: throw roses into the abyss and say, "Here is my thanks to the monster who didn’t succeed in swallowing me.’
