Glass Cathedrals
Glass Cathedrals was written for Lauren Scott, as part of Psappha Ensemble, in 2019.
‘The piece, for solo harp, is inspired by the conceptual image of a grand cathedral constructed entirely of glass. The work seeks to create a delicate sound-world to emulate the fragility of the glass structure, contrasted by the use of prevailing, stronger indicatory material to emulate the large, imposing building itself. The piece aims to capture a moment of fleeting, temporary splendour before its great, and expectedly enduring, structure shatters. The melodic content is also inspired by lines from the poem ‘Adonaïs’ by Shelley:

Harpist Lauren Scott’s new album Sea of Stars is a brilliant showcase of Lauren’s inimitable style and casts Lauren’s own compositions alongside original works by Grace-Evangeline Mason, Rüdiger Opperman and Monika Stadler. Out 19th April on Avie Records.
Scott’s debut album, Beyond the Horizon, was a breakout sensation. Her scintillating follow-up, Sea of Stars, follows in its footsteps. Lauren explains: “Scintillating … the act of light hitting a many faceted object, sparks flying or the execution of something with panache and brilliance. The harp, with its quicksilver sound and ever-shifting resonances, easily fits these definitions.”
Pre-order the album here, it is available on Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify and much more
